Soyuz-2 will fly on new fuel

3
The program for the modernization of the legendary Soyuz rockets, it turns out, will affect not only their technical characteristics. According to the Rostec Corporation, NPO Energomash named after V.P. Glushko together with the company Kuznetsov successfully tested the units in which it is planned to use a new type of fuel that is safe for the environment, which in turn will minimize harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

The report says about the engines RD-107A / 108A, which will be used in the first and second stages of the Soyuz-2 rocket. However, if earlier they functioned on kerosene, now naphthyl will act as fuel. This is an environmentally friendly form of hydrocarbon fuel with the addition of polymer additives.

It is worth noting that in addition to reducing harmful emissions, naphthyl also increases the efficiency of the unit itself, which will allow sending a large payload to any of the orbits. Both units have already been sent to the customer in the person of RCC "Progress".

The launch of modernized Soyuz-2 rockets is planned to be carried out from Vostochny Cosmodrome. Recall that naphthyl will be used for the first time as fuel for engines of the first and second stages of the apparatus.

      Not quite.
Naphthyl is a low-toxic hydrocarbon fuel that differs from the T-1 fuel used in Soyuz-type launch vehicles with a relatively lower content of aromatic compounds.
It is obtained from petroleum refined products; a mixture of naphthenes 85-88%, isoparaffins 12-10% and monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons 2,5-3%.

It is more expensive than kerosene. And how is it with its output? The question is interesting ..
