Israeli aircraft hit analogue of Russian S-300
The situation in Syria, which has come on for a while, threatens to blaze fire again. There was information that Iran sent its own development of air defense systems to the SAR to protect against attacks by Israeli and other aircraft. What started in Tehran, and where does Idlib?
Last year, a great public outcry was caused by the death of the Russian Il-20 with all the soldiers who were on board due to the provocative maneuver of the Israeli air force. In response, the Kremlin sent several S-300 air defense divisions to Syria. More than six months have passed since then, but the "formidable" Russian complexes are still "silent." From the outside, it may seem that they are protecting themselves, but the problem may be the lack of qualified local personnel to manage modern combat technique.
The result, however, is logical. Israeli aviation resumed attacks on Syrian territory, striking Iranian military installations. The authorities of the Jewish state do not hide that their goal is to squeeze out Tehran and pro-Iranian armed forces from Syria. They no longer intend to rely on the protection of the "formidably silent" S-300s in Iran.
About six months ago, the Syrian authorities met with Iran’s Defense Minister Amir Hatani. There is evidence that it was then that a decision could be made on the supply of Damascus to the fourth-generation Iranian Koussar fighters and Iranian air defense systems. It is, apparently, about the Bavar-373 air defense system - the Iranian "analogue" of our S-300s.
Military experts believe that the Bavar-373 is at least not inferior to the Russian S-300, and the Iranians say that they do surpass them one and a half times. It is believed that the Iranian air defense system brings down targets at a distance of 200 kilometers with an interception height of 30 kilometers. Bavar-373 is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 150 targets. However, the flight speed of the Sayyad-4 missiles manufactured by him is lower than that of a Russian competitor. Despite this, the Bavar-373 is a formidable war machine that will definitely not be silent.
This system is a proprietary development of the Islamic Republic. Remaining under sanctions, Tehran was forced to start copying its foreign complexes, American, French and British. There are in Iran and domestic air defense systems: S-75, "Tor-M1" and S-200. At the beginning of the two thousandths, Tehran planned to buy S-300PMU-1 in Russia, but then the Kremlin changed their minds and took a long pause. Iranian authorities have decided to develop their own modern air defense system, not inferior to the “Favorites”. The result was the appearance of the Bavar-373. According to reports, Chinese experts could also take part in the development.
So why did Tehran need to deploy air defense systems to Syria, and in the future also modern fighters?
The fact is that Iran holds a sovereign external policies, and the position of his authorities regarding the future of the SAR does not coincide in everything with the Kremlin. In particular, Tehran, like Damascus, is completely unsatisfied with the unpunished attacks of Israeli aircraft, as well as the presence of a terrorist enclave in Idlib in northern Syria. There is a non-zero probability that the Iranians may try to clean it themselves, faced with fierce resistance from Turkey, Israel and the Western coalition led by the United States. It is precisely then that a modern air defense system will be needed, which will reflect air strikes and cruise missile attacks. Iranian air defense systems will not be silent for sure.
