Novak: gas transit through Ukraine is not competitive

1
The head of the Ministry of Energy of Russia Alexander Novak said that the tariff for the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine is the highest existing. It (Ukrainian tariff) is 2-2,5 times more expensive than other directions. The minister said this in an interview. To the newspaper. Ru.

According to Novak, the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS) is worn out, has large losses in the transportation of gas and requires significant cash investments. At the same time, the head of the department specified, for clarity, that the tariff is a certain payment for pumping 1 thousand cubic meters. m. of gas per 100 km.

Novak noted that the new gas transportation routes (Turkish Stream, Nord Stream and others), based on the latest scientific and of technologieshave low losses and a higher gas transmission rate (pressure is higher). This is called competition. So do not be surprised at the emergence of new gas transportation routes, because new roads and railways are being built, even new modes of transport are appearing and this is not surprising. Just the end user of gas wants to reduce transportation costs.

As for the contracts (there are two of them) between Gazprom and Naftogaz, they expire on January 1, 2020. The first is for the supply of gas directly for consumption by Ukrainian consumers. The second is for gas transit through Ukraine to European consumers. And now there is a discussion of the possibilities of concluding a new contract for the use of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

First of all, Russia is interested in a competitive tariff for pumping gas. The second basic condition is the settlement of all disputes. Russia sees prospects for further growth in gas imports, so the services of the Ukrainian gas transportation system may come in handy "to some extent." It all depends on the end user. But before the end of 2019, the Russian side, together with Ukrainian colleagues and representatives of Europe, will try to agree on everything.
