In Russia, invented an independent robot surgeon

Thanks to scientists from MGMSU them. A.I. Evdokimova and MSTU "Stankin" in Russia may appear a robotic operating room. Recall that in many clinics around the world a "mechanical assistant" by the name da Vinci is already quite successfully used, the cost of which is $ 2 million. Domestic developers, unlike foreign colleagues, have created a fully autonomous robot that can perform complex operations without the participation of a “live” surgeon. Moreover, its cost will be less.

The prototype of the “smart” operating room, presented by scientists, is equipped with navigation systems, operation planning and two robots, one of which can function autonomously. The device resembles a swivel mechanism rigidly mounted on the operating table. In his arsenal there are all the necessary tools, ranging from a scalpel or a biopsy needle to a laser. In addition, the prototype is equipped with a visualization system that allows you to plan an operation based on digital models of the patient’s internal organs, as well as monitor its progress.

As mentioned above, the main difference between the brainchild of Russian scientists from the famous da Vinci is autopilot. So, the surgeon sets the sequence and time for performing all the manipulations and starts the system. Further, he will only have to control the process, without taking direct part.

According to the developers, their robotic operating room is a universal tool and can be used in various fields of medicine from dentistry to neurosurgery. The system has already passed successful tests on a mannequin, having completed 5 types of operations. Scientists hope that their device in the minimum configuration (so far without autopilot) will be able to appear in clinics of the Russian Federation in the coming years.
