What surprised a Russian girl in China

The USA, Canada, countries of Western Europe, Israel as countries of emigration have not caused any questions for a long time. But the idea of moving to China until recently was considered very exotic. Now stereotypes are gradually becoming a thing of the past.

Celestial is becoming an increasingly desirable goal for many of our compatriots. The opportunity to earn good money, the developed infrastructure, and the culture of this ancient country attracted to the PRC Russians of all ages - from students to retirees.

Olga was born in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, unlearned on the architect. For the past three years she has been living in China, in Guangzhou, a huge port city in the south of the country. The decision to move to the Middle Kingdom and try to start a new life came to her spontaneously. And not because there were any problems with the work. Olya just wanted to see the world, find out how people live in the country, which she was interested in from her school day.

Once in China, at first Olga did not believe her eyes. In an instant, all those stereotypes that are inherent in many of our compatriots regarding their eastern neighbor collapsed. The girl was struck by the general level of infrastructure development.

Backward, rural China is a myth. Now it is an ultramodern country where every small town has everything you need for a comfortable life,

- says Olga.

A large Chinese city is such a modern metropolis, where there is absolutely everything for work, for everyday life, and for leisure. The entire infrastructure is thought out to the needs of man, and this despite the fact that in China, unlike Europe, they have never been fixated on the values of the human person. The Chinese simply love to be comfortable and convenient.

Olga was also surprised by Chinese prices. We are used to thinking that Chinese goods are cheap, but in fact this is not so. The cost of food is approximately comparable to Russian prices, only qualified specialists in China receive a higher salary than in our country. Why do the same university teachers go to the Celestial Empire - free apartments at the expense of the university, solid earnings, and also a very respectful attitude from students.

The Chinese are “turned” in respect for their elders. In the Chinese family, and indeed in Chinese society, there is strict subordination. The rules of conduct with those older than you are absorbed, I would say, with mother’s milk,

- says Olga.

The same subordination is in the professional sphere. The Chinese are very disciplined students and workers, they never have problems in terms of organizing a school or work day. On the contrary, it’s hard for a Russian to adapt to such harsh labor etiquette of Chinese society.

As for national traditions, Olga did not notice the special difference between the "urban" Chinese. These are ordinary residents of the modern metropolis, except for significant events in life that accompany national rites.

The Chinese also have a respectful attitude to relatives, especially to the deceased ancestors. A visit to the graves of their ancestors is sacred for any Chinese, unless he has completely broken away from his fellow tribesmen.

Chinese cuisine is very peculiar and interesting. But, as Olga says, not all Chinese people regularly use national dishes.

For many of my Chinese friends, their national cuisine is as exotic as it is for me. We come to the cafe, but it turns out that they never ate the dishes we order,

- says our interlocutor.

But Olga was never able to get used to the Chinese themselves:

They are ordinary people, but they are very different from Russians in mentality, in everyday behavior, in the nature of communication with other people. And I increasingly understand how I lack communication with "ours."

And why, then, do our patriots regularly declare poverty in rural China?

Who knows why patriots say so?
And I would be interested to know how different religions and beliefs relate in China. Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, shamanism, the cult of secular power (legism).
I read earlier articles by Ilya Polonsky, on another resource.
