100 terabytes: SSD heavyweight breaks all records
A month ago, Samsung created the most capacious at that time SSD, its volume was 30 TB, which is much more than most analogues on the market. However, their record did not last long - the much less well-known company Nimbus Data left the South Korean giant far behind, releasing its 100 terabyte heavyweight ExaDrive DC100 3,5 inches.
As noted by Thomas Isaakovich, CEO of Nimbus Data, in their opinion, “pushing” more and more data into a small physical volume is a dead end branch of development. Samsung chose the way to develop super-fast read / write methods, thereby demonstrating that comfortable work is possible even with such volumes. Nimbus Data acted differently, the bandwidth of their offspring is only 500 Mb / s, which is significantly lower than competitors.
Of the serious advantages, in addition to the impressive size, especially by the standards of SSDs, the DC100 consumes 85% less energy per 1 TB of memory than direct competitors, which means huge cost savings for large data centers. The company expects that their drives will be very popular in the market, as they will allow you to process huge amounts of information while spending a moderate amount of energy.
The target audience of the new SSD giants are large data centers, for which Nimbus Data is preparing a number of special offers. But an ordinary user will probably not be able to purchase such drives. Neither the price of the device, nor the release date for free sale is disclosed.
