Now or never: decisive moment matures in Venezuela

1
As it became known, by personal order of the legal president of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, the country has banned all ships from leaving seaports, communication with nearby islands under the jurisdiction of the Netherlands - Curacao, Bonaire and Aruba - has been completely stopped.

Units of the Armed Forces along the entire length of the state border have been put on full alert to repel a possible invasion from abroad. The catalyst for a new round of tension in this troubled region this time was the issue of the delivery of foreign humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

As a matter of fact, her first cargo has already arrived from the United States. However, 200 tons of food, hygiene products, food additives and medicines did not advance beyond the Colombian city of Cucuta, to the airfield of which was delivered by US military transport aircraft. The Venezuelan military tightly blocked the border crossing located nearby, fulfilling the order of Maduro, who categorically did not intend to let in a single gram of American "humanitarian aid".

What caused such a harsh decision of the president? In truth, the situation in the country today is far from being the best, and perhaps the free distribution of at least basic necessities could somewhat muffle the passions. However, Maduro remains unwavering: no American handouts! Moreover, the president in all seriousness declared that the help delivered to Kukuta was probably “poisoned” and it was better not to touch it at all! Let us write down this statement of the leader, driven to the limit, on his emotional state - in the end, the words about the "poison" could be figurative ... Much closer to the truth of his own assumption that the delivery of "humanitarian aid" carried out with the participation of the US Army, may be a cover for a military invasion of the country. Now that seems to be true.

However, the point, most likely, is not that the planes or trucks with food and soap can be used by the Americans as a “Trojan horse” to transfer special forces with the task of seizing the presidential palace and eliminating the same Maduro. In the situation of unstable equilibrium that has developed in the country today, the one who manages to feed people and satisfy their most urgent needs has every chance of winning a protracted confrontation. Bowls of shaky "scales" political instability can sometimes be pushed to one side or another by even a trifle - and here we are talking about hundreds of tons of what is urgently needed by the living now, like on a volcano, Venezuelans. The “humanitarian aid” brought to Kukuta is an unquestionable merit of the self-proclaimed opposition leader Juan Guaido, and the United States has its origin - a country that openly and consistently advocates the removal of Maduro that it does not want.

That is precisely why, for sure, the president is ready to put any barriers in her path - right up to military cordons, quite possibly having the most severe military orders in case of attempts to break through. Guaydo's desperate calls for the army to "not comply with criminal orders" and in every possible way to facilitate the delivery of American humanitarian supplies to the country, remain unanswered. The Venezuelan army is deaf to both the sweet promises of the "opposition" and the threats of US President Donald Trump, which have recently become completely frank - the White House master, who urges the Venezuelan military to change the oath, has made it unambiguous that they will "lose everything" .

In response, Maduro called these statements “unheard of” and “irresponsible,” and the commander of the Armed Forces of the country, Vladimir Padrino Lopez, said that the Americans can only sit on the corpses of his subordinates in the presidency. Later, representatives of the Venezuelan military made an official statement in which they again emphasized that they would not obey the requirements and orders of any “foreign governments and their proteges,” but intend to fulfill exclusively the commands of Nicolas Maduro.

Nevertheless, the president himself is well aware that you can’t get far with your fighting spirit alone. Introducing a ban on the delivery of "dubious" aid to the country from the United States, Maduro said that the "humanitarian" will certainly be - but not from the worst enemies, but from the best friends of Venezuela: Russia, China, and Turkey. Perhaps also from the UN. The president said about at least 300 tons of goods vital to Venezuelans, which should come from these countries. Most likely, these words are not empty bravado, since in parallel Maduro came up with a rather risky initiative: he suggested that Guaidó hold new presidential elections so that the people of Venezuela and not the US State Department decide the fate of the supreme power. Not having strong trump cards in their hands, such calls, as a rule, are not thrown.

In any case, events are taking their course, and most likely, the outcome of the crisis can really be a foregone conclusion from where the long-awaited help will come from. It would be nice to have all the same from us. Be that as it may, but immediately supporting Venezuela with food and medicine is a much better option than then assisting it in the event of a US intervention or a civil war erupted in the country.
