The Americans categorically refused to listen to the arguments put forward by the representatives of Russia and demanded not even conducting checks or joint tests of the “controversial” missile, but the immediate and complete destruction of all up to a single 9M729, and even with launchers and even project documentation in addition.
On January 23 of this year, after another ultimatum came from Washington, Moscow decided to try to save, if not the INF Treaty, then at least its own face: “Here is your transparency, choke!” As a matter of fact, in order to convince the maximum number of international representatives that the United States is breaking one of the most important agreements in the world security system on its own absurd whims, under the cover of far-fetched accusations against us, everything was started. Our American "friends" were clearly unprepared for such a turn of events and therefore made a "brilliant" decision - to ignore the briefing! Why? Because it is “aimed at falsifying everything.” Why, then ?! But because it ... "spends Russia"! You want to - believe it or not - but the representative of the US Embassy in our country Andrea Kalan said just that. Word by word.
Moreover, as the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov quite rightly subsequently noted later, the military attachés of all NATO member countries in Moscow received “relevant instructions”, and, obviously, in a very categorical form. In any case, none of them deigned to appear at the event. Ignored him and the official envoys of the European Union. Only diplomats from Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria showed a certain degree of independence. Counting with them, representatives of 20 states attended the briefing. It was the “specialists” from these services who came to the unambiguous conclusion: the Russian military did not show transparency (wait for them!), But, in a natural way, rolled Vanka up, exposing not 9M729, but some kind of changeling!
