The first private highway will appear in the Russian Federation. The route will be approximately 2200 kilometers long and will connect Kazakhstan with the Republic of Belarus. The highway was called the Meridian. Its construction began on the Russian-Kazakh border from the Sagarchin checkpoint. The four-lane highway of the first class will become paid and will be intended primarily for the organization of commercial cargo transportation.

Meridian will be part of the new Great Transport Route connecting Europe and Asia. The length of the huge highway from the People's Republic of China to Western Europe will be 8445 kilometers. Despite the fact that the four-lane highway will be paid in all sections, economists are confident that it will compete with the Suez Canal, the Northern Sea Route and even the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The speed of delivery of goods by road from China to Europe will be reduced from 80 to 11 days compared to sea transport.

A highway has already been operating in China connecting the coastal Shanghai with western China, and neighboring Kazakhstan is completing the construction of its part of the transit route. Now it is the turn of the Russian Federation.

The Russian part of the highway is being built by the Meridian company, headed by former Gazprom top manager Alexander Ryazanov, who is now also a member of the board of directors of Russian Railways, and concurrently chairman of the board of directors of the Russian Holding Company.

The amount of investment in the project is estimated at approximately 594 billion rubles. Necessary land for construction has been bought out by the company by 80%. The new transport artery will also play an important role at the regional level. The Meridian will pass through several regions, connecting Orenburg and Smolensk.
