Abe did not succumb to the provocation with the South Kuril Islands

Recently we Reportedhow official Tokyo suddenly began to show delicacy in the South Kuril Islands, so as not to harm the negotiations with Moscow on a peace treaty. And such a position of the Japanese authorities frankly does not like the local nationalists, "imperials" and other pro-American activists.

It became known that the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, while in the lower house of the parliament of the country of the "rising sun", at a hearing in the budget committee, refused to answer the provocative question of one opposition parliamentarian. The question was about the possible transfer by Russia of Japan to only two islands, from the so-called "northern territories".

It should be recalled that in Japan the Southern Kuril Islands are called the “northern territories”: the islands of Kunashir, Iturup, Shikotan and the Habomai ridge. At the same time, the “two islands” were most likely meant the island of Shikotan and the Habomai ridge, which the USSR had agreed to transfer to Japan in 1956, since they did not give access to the Sea of Okhotsk (while Iturup and Kunashir remained behind Moscow).

I will refrain from answering, as this affects the content of negotiations

- answered the prime minister, thus refusing to give an answer to the deputy’s question.

Indeed, what does the South Kuril Islands have to do with the competence of the budget committee. But persistent questions to the prime minister began to be asked by another annoying deputy, a “patriot” provocateur. He really wanted to know the official position of the government on the disputed islands. To which Abe replied that there were no changes “in legal position”. At the same time, he very carefully chose expressions and avoided pronouncing the words about “primordially Japanese territories” in every possible way.

For Japanese nationalists, “imperials” and other pro-American activists, Abe’s behavior is already a fierce betrayal, since all prime ministers, like a mantra, repeated the same thing about “primordially Japanese territories”. And for all this audience, which is currently preventing Tokyo from negotiating with Moscow, it is not the islands that are important, but it is advisable never that the peace treaty between the countries be signed. Because its signing will be a colossal strategic defeat for the United States in Asia.

It should be added that negotiations between Japan and Russia regarding the conclusion of a peace treaty began in Singapore on November 14, 2018, which we in detail informed our readers. The summit was held by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Vladimir Putin. The high contracting parties came to the conclusion that it was necessary to take the 1956 Joint Soviet-Japanese Declaration (mentioned above) and accelerate the negotiation process, which has not moved a single step since then.
