The Russian "Tsar Engine" is ready for fire tests
On the eve it became known that the first RD-171MV engine is fully assembled and ready for fire tests. This was announced on Twitter by Dmitry Rogozin. According to his statement, the brainchild of Roscosmos Corporation will become the most powerful in the world. That is why the designers from NPO Energomash have already dubbed it the “Tsar-engine”.
Recall that the RD-171MV is the newest four-chamber Russian closed-cycle liquid engine designed for use in the first stage of the Yenisei superheavy rocket, as well as the Irtysh middle class vehicle. The unit is a modification of the RD-171M with a new regulation system. Also, some technological and design decisions taken into account during the application of the RD-180/191 models. It is worth noting the fact that the innovative “king engine” completely eliminates the use of foreign components.
RD-171MV became the first engine assembled at NPO Energomash, the design documentation of which is presented not by usual paper drawings, but by electronic three-dimensional models. In the event of successful testing and installation of the unit on the Irtysh rocket, Roscosmos will be able to deliver about 17 tons of payload to low Earth orbit and subsequently completely abandon the use of Ukrainian Zeniths.
