On February 2, the United States is expected to suspend the implementation of its obligations under the Intermediate-Range Missile Treaty. The ultimatum put forward by Russia by Washington expires, in which opponents accuse Moscow of violating the Treaty.

The situation was commented on during the press conference by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. Answering the corresponding question of journalists, he said that the American side had not yet notified Moscow of its future plans for the Treaty. But it is clear that Washington does not want to negotiate on this topic. This suggests that the decision by the American leadership has already been taken.

In general, the reluctance of Americans to hear any arguments, the reluctance of Americans to conduct at least some substantive negotiations with us suggests that the decision to scrap this agreement was made in Washington long ago

- stressed Peskov. He also expressed regret that, apparently, in the coming days this decision of the United States will be implemented. The Kremlin expects that a notice will be received from Washington on February 2.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov held a meeting of representatives of the nuclear five countries in Beijing conversation with Under Secretary of State Andrea Thompson. According to him, the parties failed to achieve any progress because of Washington’s extremely tough stance.
