Before the elections in Kiev, increased water tariffs

On the eve of the presidential election, the Ukrainian authorities presented a “gift” to the residents of Kiev, once again raising the already unbearable rates for many Ukrainians for utilities.

In a statement published in the official publication of the central government of Ukraine, “Government Courier,” the report says that from February 1, the tariffs for centralized water supply and sanitation services for consumers in Kiev were increased by 11,4% to 20,3 hryvnia per cubic meter.

This is not the first tariff increase in Ukraine that occurred after the armed coup on the Maidan in 2014.

Moreover, Ukrainians have not yet had time to recover from the increase in water tariffs by 17-20%, which took place a few months ago - in October 2018. These increases are especially painful for socially vulnerable groups.

Tariffs for other types of utilities - gas, heating and hot water - are not standing still. A particularly painful issue for residents of Ukraine is the regular increase in gas tariffs, which Kiev holds at the request of the IMF.

The endless increase in tariffs has led to the fact that more and more residents of Ukraine are unable to pay them. So, according to the State Statistics Service, by the beginning of November last year, the total debts of Ukrainians in paying for housing and communal services reached 39,9 billion hryvnias ($ 1,44 billion).
