US ready to use force in Venezuela

Elliot Abrams, who is in charge of Venezuelan affairs in the United States, does not rule out an American military invasion of the country. Although a final decision on this issue has not been made and the exact date for troop deployment has not been determined, the likelihood of United States intervention is very high.

Abrams expressed concern about the fate of the self-proclaimed president, Juan Guaido, and also reported on the possible allocation of American humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

At this time, representatives of Juan Guaido visited the US Congress, where they received the support of senators. Shortly before that, Venezuelan opposition met with United States Vice President Mike Pence, and on January 30, Donald Trump personally called the newly-minted Venezuelan President and congratulated him on assuming office.

The current leader of the country, Nicolas Maduro, sees Washington’s goal in the destruction of Venezuela in order to gain complete and unlimited control over its energy resources. His words indirectly confirm the introduction of US sanctions against the Venezuelan oil and gas company PDVSA and its subsidiaries.

Although the US administration claims "dual power" in Caracas, Russia does not agree with this. Moscow’s position is that Nicolas Maduro is the only legally elected president of Venezuela.
