In Russia, they are working immediately on two supersonic airliners

In the near future, Russian civil aviation may replenish with a supersonic business jet. Designers are already developing a promising engine with a thrust of more than 14 tons. About this channel "Star" the day before, M.Nykulochkin, head of the department of aviation technical projects of Tupolev PJSC, told.

The demonstration aircraft, the first flight of which is scheduled for 2024, will be equipped with an engine based on the NK-32, now used on Tu-160 heavy bombers. However, its power is not enough for a prototype.

For the latter, a PD SDS engine with a thrust of 14,3 tons and a weight of 3055 kg will be developed. Thus, the designers will be able to reduce the weight of the new turbofan engine by almost 350 kg compared to what will be installed on the demonstrator. But its thrust, on the contrary, will increase by almost 2 tons. The flight of the prototype, in turn, is scheduled for 2027.

According to the information received, Tupolev PJSC is engaged in the development of two versions of supersonic airliners at once: with a fixed wing and a variable swept shape. The device will be able to carry out international and domestic flights. According to Nikulochkin, according to preliminary estimates, a “quick” flight from Moscow to Khabarovsk on the latest supersonic airliner can cost more than 150 rubles.
