The Foreign Ministry spoke about the split of the nuclear five

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed concern over the tensions between the members of the "nuclear five". According to him, a “lack of mutual trust” is observed in relations.

The Nuclear Five is an informal structure of states with nuclear weapons. It includes countries such as Russia, China, USA, Britain and France. A meeting between the representatives of these states took place in Beijing. However, due to a split in the "nuclear five", the countries included in it failed to agree on a final statement.

Ryabkov said that such relations between countries are "an unprecedented challenge for this format." In this light, the question posed by Russia becomes particularly relevant. It concerns the role and place of the Five in strengthening the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The Russian diplomat drew attention to the fact that the level of stability in the world has been reduced, and some parties are trying to weaken the system that controls the arms process.

We are witnessing a clear decline in the level of strategic stability amid attempts to rock and dismantle with great difficulty the formed architecture of the non-proliferation and arms control regimes

- said Ryabkov. He added that representatives of China criticize the behavior of the United States and several other countries.

One example of unconstructive behavior is Washington’s desire to withdraw from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF Treaty). The United States is expected to terminate it in early February.

At the same time, the American leadership accuses Moscow of violating it. The United States believes that the parameters of the Russian 9m729 cruise missile go beyond the INF Treaty. Even a special briefing organized by the RF Ministry of Defense did not help, at which the missile was shown to representatives of foreign states.
