The ominous silence of the S-300 in Syria
After the tragic death of the Russian Il-20 in the sky over Syria, Moscow decided to put Damascus S-300 air defense system for protection against Israeli aircraft. After that, there was a lull for some time. The Israeli Air Force avoided trying the strength of the reinforced air defense system of the ATS. However, the air raids were eventually resumed. At the same time, the Russian-made Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft systems were rather humiliatingly destroyed, while the notorious S-300s are still silent. What can this be connected with?
In our past ARTICLES we came to the conclusion that the daring courage of the Israeli pilots is due to the fact that the unified and streamlined air defense system, announced earlier by the Russian Defense Ministry, was never created. Former Israeli intelligence officer Jacob Kedmi expressed a similar view:
But I want to ask a logical question, why has this not been done so far? The Israeli edition of Nziv tried to answer, which in an ironic form reported that the Syrian officers were very poor at mastering the modern armaments delivered by him from Russia. Allegedly, our military even complained about the Syrians for their stupidity to President Bashar al-Assad.
Obviously, there is some kind of black PR in relation to the military cooperation of our countries, however, as you know, there is no smoke without fire. The following factors must be considered:
At first, the times of great military glory were far behind for the Arabs. This is not a statement with 100% accuracy, but many who have encountered the Arab military cannot worthily note their high morale and moral stamina. Of course, there are exceptions to any rule.
Secondly, it is necessary to understand the peculiarities of the mentality of Arab society, since the army is part of it. An officer position may well be bought for money or obtained for communication or position in society.
Thirdly, the war in Syria has been going on longer than the Great Patriotic War was going on. During this time, a significant part of the military personnel was simply killed during the hostilities.
Finally, it must be remembered that in Russia they have been training air defense commanders for years, and the S-300s were delivered to the ATS only a few months ago.
The bottom line is the situation with personnel shortages, when the level of training of the local military does not yet allow to properly cover the Syrian sky from the Israelis. It turns out that for the management of air defense systems it is necessary to land the Russian military. But if ours (and not ours) begin to shoot down Israeli planes, this will mean a sharp deterioration in relations between Tel Aviv and Moscow, which the Kremlin clearly does not want. Therefore, the situation turns out: neither here nor here. And the S-300 is significantly silent.
