Russia revives its heavy moon rover

2
The lunar program of the Russian Federation seems to be gaining momentum. If earlier the concept of our satellite’s development and related projects were put off the shelf, now such developments are much more active.

So, relatively recently it became known that Roscosmos plans to remake the legendary Soyuz spacecraft, adapting it for flights to the moon. Now, the director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Petrukovich told the agency in his interview RIA News about the plans for the "revival" of the heavy moon rover.

According to him, the design of the device has been considered for a long time, but everything remained at the development stage. Now, in view of the fact that Russia intends to resume the Earth satellite exploration program, the topic of creating its own moon rover has become extremely urgent. As previously reported, the new device will become an analogue of the one that was developed in the Soviet Union. In addition, this concept should be submitted no later than March of the current year.

Recall that in early January 2019, the Chinese Chang'e-4 device made a successful landing on the far side of the moon. In turn, the resumption of the program for the development of the celestial body was also announced by Russia and the United States.

The landing date was postponed 10 times. Now 32 years instead of the 16th.
