Instead of the starry sky they want to show us ads

Advertising is the engine of progress! This is what the main rule of commerce sounds like. Therefore, almost everywhere we encounter a lot of offers from various companies. But, it’s one thing when we see videos on the Internet or on TV, and it’s quite another if the advertisement “hangs” overhead, replacing the starry sky.

It is this innovation that the Russian company StartRocket wants to experience. The bottom line is that satellites will be launched into near-Earth orbit (400-500 km), which, by reflecting sunlight, will turn into peculiar pixels for the “sky screen”.

Naturally, such an unusual project was met with a lot of criticism. Especially on the part of astronomers who claim that such illumination will interfere with research. In this regard, scientists will be forced to use their devices, which will lead to a huge cluster of satellites in orbit and increase the likelihood of their collision. In addition, ordinary people will not enjoy the contemplation of annoying advertising slogans in the sky.

The founder of StartRocket, in turn, assures that the display of ads will last no more than 6 minutes 2-4 times a day: at dawn and at dusk. Such short announcements, in his opinion, should not interfere with scientists. In addition, advertising will not be broadcast everywhere, but exclusively over major cities.

How the hype around the ambitious project will end and whether it will become a reality is not known. However, one thing is certain with accuracy: StartRocket will receive truly "space" profits if implemented. Indeed, the display of one advertisement in the sky will, according to approximate estimates, cost 600 thousand US dollars.
