Russia refuses to return to PACE
The Russian Federation refuses to return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe until the sanctions restrictions are lifted for our delegation. This was stated by Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin during a meeting with Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Paula Risikko on January 15.
Volodin believes that it is unacceptable for Russia to participate in the work of PACE, as long as the rules of this organization contain rules that discriminate against Russian representatives. He notes that the Parliamentary Assembly has become a structure where they are afraid to hear an alternative point of view.
Vyacheslav Volodin refers to the priority of the Charter of the Council of Europe, which clearly states that all countries participating in this organization have equal rights. Russia protests against depriving national delegations of the right to vote in the process of making important decisions by PACE. At the moment, this norm complies with the regulations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Volodin calls her "atavism of dictatorial states." He believes that the parliaments of other European countries should express their opinion on this issue. He sees Russia as an integral part of a large European family, and therefore considers it important that she takes an active part in the work of all structures of the Council of Europe.
