The FSB filed a request to extend the detention of servicemen of the Ukrainian Navy, who were detained on November 25, 2018 during a provocation in the Kerch Strait.

Recall that on November 25, 2018, three Ukrainian warships sailed in the Kerch Strait, violating the Russian state border. By the efforts of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, the resistance of the violators was neutralized, and they themselves were detained.

By a court decision in Simferopol, sailors were arrested for a period of two months. Criminal cases are being investigated against them for illegally crossing the state border of the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, the two-month arrest term ends on January 26.

Representatives of the FSB of the Russian Federation insist on the need to extend the term of detention for another three months, that is, until April 26, 2019. On January 15, this application will be considered by the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow.

By the way, the lawyers of a number of sailors have already announced that they will ask for a postponement of the consideration of the application of the Federal Security Service. For example, the lawyer of the commander of the armored boat "Berdyansk" Roman Mokryak Ilya Novikov said RBCthat will ask for a postponement of the term for consideration of the application in relation to his client.

If the case comes to court and the Ukrainian sailors are found guilty under Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal Crossing of the State Border of the Russian Federation”, they may face up to six years in prison. It is such a measure that is provided for in the most difficult part 3 of article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - acts committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy or organized group either with the use of violence or with the threat of its use.
