Russia - Europe: We Will Deal With Ukraine Without You
The European Union has tried to support Ukraine in its gas dispute with the Russian gas monopoly. Earlier, the Stockholm arbitration made an ambiguous decision in favor of the Ukrainian Naftogaz in its litigation with Gazprom. According to his verdict, Gazprom should pay about $ 2,5 billion to Kiev. The European Union also insists on a trilateral format for negotiations on the gas problem as part of Russia, the EU and Ukraine. However, Mogherini’s proposal rested on the principled position of the Russian side. Alexander Novak, the head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, told European partners that resolving disputes over the terms of supply of “blue fuel” is the business of Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy, and therefore no tripartite negotiations at the state level on the gas issue are planned.
