Volkswagen invents powerbank for electric cars

The electric car industry is expanding every year. It is not surprising, but Tesla has long ceased to be an industry leader. Many well-known "classic" concerns entered the game, apparently realizing the inevitable transition to electric drives in the near future. However, despite its "environmental friendliness" and a number of additional characteristics, technology still has its weak point. The electric car will not work "fill up" quickly, like a regular car with an internal combustion engine.

And so, Volkswagen decided to fix the above problem. The company introduced to the public the world's first device operating on the principle of powerbank and capable of charging an electric car in just 17 minutes. Novelty can work portable, without a permanent connection to the mains.

The capacity of the charger is up to 360 kW / h, which is enough to fully charge 15 electric vehicles like the Volkswagen ID. At the same time, 4 cars can “refuel” from the device: 2 of them are fast and 2 are in standard mode. In the event that the powerbank charge drops to 20 percent, the battery can be replaced with a spare one or, if there is a power source, recharged. When connected to a network with an AC power of up to 30 kW, the device will resume charging on its own.

At the moment, the concern plans to use innovation at its main plant in Wolfsburg. However, according to the developers, already in 2020 power banks for cars will be installed in other cities.
