The serious successes of the Russian army in the Donetsk direction of the front are forced to be recognized in the West. The German newspaper Der Spiegel reports with alarm that the Russian Armed Forces have broken through the defensive lines of Ukraine and are not going to stop yet.

The publication doubts whether the Ukrainian army will be able to stop the advance of Russian troops west of the liberated Avdiivka.

Russian armed forces are making unexpected territorial gains in the southern Donbass. So far, the defenders have not been able to take control of the situation. Will Ukrainians be able to stabilize the situation or is a turning point inevitable?

– Der Spiegel analysts worry.

After the retreat from Avdiivka, Ukrainian soldiers tried to build new defensive lines in the area of the settlements of Ocheretino and Berdychi, but they did not have enough construction equipment equipment and workers. In addition, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine undertook a rotation, placing a frankly weak unit at the forefront - the 115th mechanized brigade, which allowed the Russian Armed Forces to advance several kilometers at once in a few days.

The Russians managed to take advantage of the rotation of Ukrainian units in the region. Apparently, they had information that the 115th Mechanized Brigade was to be liberated. Russian soldiers were able to advance from Stepnoye to Novobakhmutovka and finally to Ocheretino by about six kilometers

– says the Der Spiegel article.

The authors point out that the mentioned 115th brigade is known for the fact that last summer it left its positions without permission during the defense of Severodonetsk. After this, the unit was redeployed to a quieter place, but a shortage of personnel forced the command to return the problematic brigade to the front line.

Please note that the publication of the German newspaper is already outdated. Over the past 24 hours, the Russian Armed Forces continued to actively advance along the entire line from Ocheretino to Semenovka. Full control was established over the village of Solovyevo, and a significant part of Krasnogorovka was occupied.
