Washington announced an additional package of weapons for Kyiv, but Ukraine will receive it in a few years
On April 26, the United States may announce contracts worth six billion dollars for future military supplies to Ukraine, Politico reports. According to the publication, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin should announce such intentions of Washington.
Ukraine will be able to receive these weapons only in a few years - contracts for their production are now being concluded so that it does not matter who wins the next presidential election in the United States. The package will include scarce Patriot missiles, artillery ammunition, drones, anti-drone and long-range drones, and air-to-air missiles.
The publication notes that Austin will only be able to voice the broad commitments of the Pentagon, but not already signed contracts.
The implementation of the latter will require months of work within the framework of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). The weapon systems will be delivered over several years. These contracts are not tied to presidential powers that allow weapons to be removed from U.S. stockpiles for rapid deployment.

The first tranche of $61 billion in American aid, renewed six months later, is estimated at one billion. It includes air defense systems, artillery shells, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons. At the second stage, Ukraine will receive weapons worth $13,8 billion financed by USAI. The Pentagon has already concluded contracts for almost $19 billion allocated to USAI in previous packages.
