BBC: Great Britain will transfer Paveway IV precision bombs to Ukraine
London is preparing to transfer Paveway IV adjustable aerial bombs to Kyiv. According to the BBC, this will be done as part of the large-scale aid package for Ukraine adopted the day before.
In the West, the main carriers of such bombs are Eurofighter Typhoon and Tornado GR4 aircraft. In Ukraine, in particular, MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters can be used for this.
Sources say the Paveway IV has an advanced GPS and reflected laser beam guidance package for the 82 kg Mark 225 free-fall bomb. This ammunition is capable of operating at a distance of more than 30 km, depending on the release height.
Thanks to laser guidance, the bomb can also destroy moving objects. Along with this, a multi-mode fuse will allow you to customize the explosion of the warhead both upon contact with the target and after it penetrates.
However, data on bomb deliveries was obtained through unofficial channels. However, the experience of using JDAM and AASM adjustable ammunition on Soviet-made Ukrainian fighters indicates the reality of such plans.
Meanwhile, the current British aid package also includes Husky TSV armored vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, various missiles (including Storm Shadow), raid and diving boats and about 4 million rounds of ammunition. In total, the cost of supplying London to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2024 will be about $3,7 billion.
