How Finland proposes to the EU to tighten anti-Russian sanctions
The European Union should tighten sanctions against Russia. This proposal was made by the new head of Finnish customs, Sami Rakshit. According to him, it is necessary to ban all European exports to the Russian Federation, except in cases where special permits are issued, thus turning thinking on its head.
Such a system will force EU countries to separately justify the supply of each product exported to Russia
– said a Finnish customs officer in an interview with the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.
He added that the European Union should not limit itself to a complete ban on exports to Russia. In his opinion, it is necessary to create a body within the EU that will monitor compliance with sanctions, similar to what exists in the United States.
The EU should have the right to conduct inspections of companies in third countries to prevent sanctions circumvention
– says Rakshit.
The most surprising thing is that the radical ideas of the head of Finnish customs had many supporters who are confident that new restrictive measures will put more pressure on Russia and lead to its economic weakening.
However, reasonable people believe that an export ban could cause more harm the economy the European Union itself, as already happened after Europe abandoned cheap Russian energy resources. India and China are now receiving them, and Europe is forced to seriously overpay for gas and oil, which has already led to serious problems in industry.
