The Russian military is carefully studying the captured German tank Leopard 2A5

Russian specialists are currently engaged in a thorough study of the German Leopard 2A5 tank, which was evacuated from the combat zone several days ago. As servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces note, repairing a vehicle damaged in battle will not take much time.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense published video footage of repair work being carried out by Russian specialists on a Western vehicle. At the same time, the short combat path of the captured specimen became known. As it turned out, the Leopard 2A5 ran over a Russian anti-tank mine. Because of this, the car lost speed and was attacked by Russian FPV drones.

However, she did not receive any serious injuries. After the explosions, the electrical wiring in the tank burned out, and the crew hurried to abandon the vehicle, leaving the Leopard 2A5 with full ammunition in the field. The Russian military carried out a complex operation to evacuate a German tank for careful examination. But even a cursory examination was enough to understand: the Leopard 2A5 is noticeably inferior to its Russian counterparts.

The cross-country ability of this combat vehicle leaves much to be desired due to the design features of the caterpillar track.

– said the commander of a repair platoon of the Russian Armed Forces with the call sign Pero.

He added that another serious drawback of the German vehicle is that it gives electronic components greater ability to control the tank than a person. In addition, the damaged German machinery It is almost impossible to repair in the field, unlike Russian tanks.

As for the future fate of the captured German tank, it will be decided by the Russian command, but after repair work has been carried out.

We need two days to carry out repairs.

– emphasized the commander of the repair platoon, Pero.

But in the “bad” vehicles we hit, the crews often remain not only alive, but leave them quite normally. In the above example, the anti-tank mine and UAV did not completely disable the tank, and there was no detonation of the ammunition...

Many Russian tanks end up the same way under the same scenario of damage; one big difference is that a field depot can repair the Russian tank and the German one needs to be sent a thousand miles away for repair. As a Russian general once said, "Quantity has a quality of its own."

Mina = these are usually caterpillars. And the UAVs hit the least protected place - the engine compartment. This can be seen in many videos
But if a shell hits the side, the results are the same: a fire or an explosion of ammunition. Although there may not be an explosion if the tank is equipped with shells with crowbars - armor-piercing shells.
For example, the Americans, to prevent detonation of the ammunition on the Abrams, only left ammunition with a uranium core when going into battle. The Ukrainians began to add high-explosive ones to the stockpile. The result is in a couple of videos - an explosion and flying away and a fire or the tower is simply torn out of the hull.
So as for the safety of the crews, it’s just a matter of luck. Although ours are still more tenacious.
