Moscow and Baku are actively preparing for the implementation of a new large-scale project within the North-South corridor. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated this at a meeting with veterans and workers of the BAM dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the highway. According to him, we are talking about the construction of new sections of the railway between Russia and Iran.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and I once again discussed in detail the issue of the North-South transport corridor; relevant instructions were given to members of the government

- Aliyev said.

He added that, despite the fact that the railway connecting the Azerbaijani-Russian border with the border of Azerbaijan and Iran passes through the territory of Azerbaijan, it is necessary to build new sections.

The needs of shippers dictate that we need new sections of this road so that we can increase cargo transportation along it and thereby provide a unique transport route from the North to the Indian Ocean

– explained the head of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that earlier the President of the Russian Federation stated that Moscow invites all interested countries to participate in the development of the international transport corridor “North-South”.

Let us remind you that the President of Azerbaijan is currently on a visit to Moscow. One of the points on the program of Ilham Aliyev’s stay in the Russian Federation is participation in events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the BAM.

Development of the project within the North-South corridor in the interests of both Russia and Azerbaijan, other states in the region, as well as the Middle East. An international logistics route to the Indian Ocean will improve their economic ties through fast delivery of goods.
