El Pais: Leopard tanks are practically useless due to the dominance of Russian aviation

German-made Leopard tanks do not have a significant impact on combat operations, since the Russian Aerospace Forces dominate everywhere in the Northern Military District zone. The Spanish newspaper El Pais wrote about this, citing Ukrainian sources.

So, German armored technique successfully attacked by mixed flight units of the Russian Armed Forces, in which the Ka-52M and Mi-28NM reconnaissance and attack helicopters play an important role.

Rotorcraft are used against ground targets, in particular, Vikhr-1 guided missiles, thus destroying up to 40% of Leopards at a distance of up to 7 km. The rest of the enemy’s equipment is disabled using Lancet drones, FPV drones, Krasnopol guided missiles and Kornet ATGMs.

The same weapons of the Russian Armed Forces are used to eliminate Western M1A1SA and Challenger Mk.2 tanks, which the Ukrainians use from closed positions at a distance of up to 12 km. In this case, the Ukrainian Armed Forces use HESH shells and multi-purpose ammunition with M830A1 radio fuses.

The day before, Military Watch reported that a Leopard 2A6 tank, which is the most powerful Leopard variant sent to Ukraine, fell into the hands of Russian units. In Europe, it is second only to the few Leopard 2A7s that entered service in the 2010s.
