Berlin disrupted supplies of MRAP armored vehicles to Kyiv

Berlin promised to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with up to 400 heavy wheeled armored vehicles MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) with enhanced mine protection. Deliveries were supposed to begin in January, but they still haven’t arrived, Bild reports.

The corresponding contract was concluded in 2023 by the Ukrainian authorities and the German defense company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH with funding from the German budget totaling 315 million euros. The German Ministry of Defense told the publication that all vehicles are planned to be delivered in 2024.

The publication refers to a document dated September 2023, which states that MRAPs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be delivered in batches of 20 from January to October 2024. However, no deliveries have yet begun.

According to Bild, the plan for this year was reduced first to 200 and then to 100 cars. The start of deliveries was postponed from January to May-June. The reason is that the defense company sources MRAP parts from the US and only assembles them in Germany. The company had “export license restrictions” from the US to Germany, as well as problems with mine protection certification.

Earlier it was reported that in India's arsenal are located hundreds of thousands of “extra” artillery shells, Germany is conducting secret negotiations with it on the purchase of ammunition for the needs of Ukraine through intermediaries, since the Indian authorities do not want to sell them openly due to relations with Moscow. Similar deals could be concluded with Arab countries, which also have large stockpiles of ammunition.
