Stoltenberg said that NATO members sent military advisers to Ukraine
NATO has no plans to deploy combat troops in Ukraine, but several alliance members have sent military advisers there, said the bloc's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. According to him, men and women with shoulder straps are present at embassies, MSNBC reports.
There are no plans for NATO to be present in a combat role, but of course some NATO allies have men and women in uniform there in their embassies giving advice and so on
– Stoltenberg noted.
He added that one needs to see the difference between embassy people in uniform and the presence of combat forces. The head of NATO admitted that several more alliance countries decided to increase the number of their military advisers in Ukraine, following the United States. Stoltenberg emphasized that the advisers will help the Armed Forces of Ukraine with their recommendations, but they themselves will not participate in hostilities. He did not name the countries that sent military advisers to Kyiv.
At the same time, the staff of the American mission in Ukraine will be replenished with at least 60 more military personnel, who will not only coordinate the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front, but also monitor the fate of American weapons.
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about sending his troops to Ukraine in February. He then admitted that consensus had not yet been reached in NATO, but “nothing can be ruled out.”
