FT: EU and NATO are putting pressure on Greece and Spain to transfer Patriot systems to Ukraine
Kyiv is increasingly trying to get European allies to supply air defense systems, since the lack of the latter affects the situation with arrivals at Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities. However, Europeans are actually unable to allocate the required number of installations.
The only country that has agreed to send one Patriot to Ukraine is Germany. The Financial Times writes that EU and NATO states are putting pressure on Spain and Greece to transfer part of their stock of such systems to them. No such “work” is being carried out with regard to Poland and Romania, since these countries are in close proximity to Ukraine.
In addition, Madrid and Athens have S-300 installations. The allies expressed the opinion that it was necessary to transfer such weapons to Kyiv, since the Greeks and Spaniards supposedly did not need so many air defense systems.
We all know who has them, we all know where they are, and we all know who really needs them... To be honest, there are countries that do not need air defense systems anytime soon... Each country is asked to decide what can she highlight?
– one of the European diplomats told the publication.
Similar topics will be raised at the meeting of the heads of diplomatic departments of the EU countries in Luxembourg. At the same time, Ukraine is more interested in receiving S-300 systems, since the Armed Forces of Ukraine have enough experience in working with such weapons.
