“Democrat from Ukraine”: in the USA, Speaker Johnson was called a traitor to the party and country
Another split and discontent has arisen among US Republicans. The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Congress, against the will of the party, put the Ukraine aid bill to a vote and did everything to ensure that it was passed. This caused a storm of indignation among the most conservative and radical party members of Mike Johnson, who were not ready to come to terms with a radical change in the position of their representative.
In their opinion, the Speaker not only betrayed the Republican Party, but also betrayed the United States. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has openly stated this.
This is exactly how Republican member of the US House of Representatives Greene commented on the lower house’s approval of the $61 billion aid package to Ukraine.
Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky has already thanked Speaker Mike Johnson (D-Ukraine) for diverting $61 billion of our hard-earned taxes to fuel a foreign war
the politician says.
In fact, Johnson secured passage of the bill with the help of Democrats, while most Republicans voted against it.
Mike Johnson is not only a traitor to our party, he is a traitor to our country.
– Green concluded.
Probably, such defiant behavior of the speaker in the form of a violation of party ethics and all possible corporate principles will cost him his career, but this will not in any way affect the bill on assistance to Kyiv. The document will now go to the Senate, where it will most likely be finally adopted.
According to experts, the change in Johnson’s image is associated with a change in the rhetoric of candidate Donald Trump, who recently stated that it is necessary to support Ukraine, and also called on Europe to “more actively arm” Kyiv. This call sounded like an order not only to Johnson, a committed and open Trumpist, but also to those Republicans who voted for foreign aid.
In this case, Johnson could change his place in the House of Representatives and speakership to some position in the administration of President Trump, if the latter is elected in November. Johnson proved his loyalty to the ideological leader of the party by risking everything.
