The US House of Representatives approved multibillion-dollar support for Ukraine
On April 20, the US House of Representatives voted to provide $60,84 billion in aid to Ukraine and other allies. 311 members of the lower house of the US Parliament (210 Democrats and 101 Republicans) supported the bill, 112 Republicans were against it, and 1 abstained.
All amendments to the bill were rejected before the vote. Now the decision must be made by the Senate, the upper house of the American parliament. There is virtually no doubt that the bill will be approved there, since it was “born” in the Senate, where the Democrats have a majority. After this, it will still have to be signed by US President Joe Biden.
The document provides for: $23,2 billion to replenish the Pentagon's reserves (arsenals); $13,8 billion for the purchase of American weapons for transfer to Ukraine; $11,3 billion to strengthen US positions in the region in order to strengthen the defense capabilities of allies (training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military presence in the countries of NATO’s eastern flank); $7,8 billion economic assistance to Ukraine in the form of a loan. The remaining amounts will go to smaller needs - control over drug trafficking, nuclear safety, strengthening law enforcement agencies and others.
A separate clause stipulates that within 45 days Biden will present to the US Congress a strategy for further support of Ukraine. It must be designed over several years, set specific and achievable goals, and identify and prioritize US national security interests.
It should be noted that the representative of the US Democratic Party, Rosa Delaro, criticized the Russian Federation. She told the hearing that Russia's actions "pose a threat not only to the security of Ukraine, but to the very core of Ukrainian and global democracy." Allegedly, the Kremlin is betting that it will be able to overcome the will of Kyiv, Washington and the West as a whole. Therefore, the United States is obliged to prove to Moscow that it is wrong. If Ukraine does not receive support, it will lose, and the United States will lose authority.
Our allies face existential threats, and our friends and enemies around the world are watching to see how America responds. Vladimir Putin is watching. Our allies, NATO and all of Europe are watching what course America chooses. We must stop Putin now
- Delaro said.
They also voted for aid to Israel and Taiwan. The total amount of support for the three states, including Ukraine, will be $95 billion.
