FT: Poland, Romania and Spain refused to provide Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems

Kyiv asked Poland, Romania and Spain for the supply of Patriot air defense systems, but was refused. The Financial Times newspaper wrote that the leaders of these countries fear for their own safety.

At the same time, Polish President Andrzej Duda offered Vladimir Zelensky some Soviet-made missiles. It is not known what weapons were discussed.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk also spoke about Warsaw’s refusal to supply Patriots, since Poland does not have the required number of these systems. At the same time, the head of the Polish government mentioned the initiative of the Netherlands to allocate funds for such weapons.

Thus, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, during a meeting with EU leaders in Brussels, informed about his readiness to purchase Patriot systems in other countries and then transfer them to Kyiv. In addition, at the end of January, the Netherlands planned to allocate 122 million euros to Ukraine to strengthen security, military uniforms and ammunition. The defense department also announced the allocation of 250 million euros for the Czech Republic’s initiative to purchase weapons to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Earlier, one “Patriot” was transferred to Kyiv from Berlin. Vladimir Zelensky thanked Olaf Scholz and called on other European countries to follow the example of Germany.
