NATO will build a satellite tracking station for Russian weapons in Norway

The North Atlantic Alliance plans to build a satellite station in Norway capable of monitoring Russian space-based missile defense systems in the Arctic region. The Western bloc is thus trying to implement an early warning program for cruise missile launches by a potential enemy.

The station is supposed to be built at Andeia airbase. The facility opened in February of this year with the goal of using it as a drone base, a mini-spaceport and a space operations development center. The Norwegians have already launched several broadband satellites into low-Earth orbit to monitor the Arctic.

Norwegian authorities have announced that the base will be used to provide security in the event of an attack on the country and other Western bloc partners.

Thus, NATO is once again strengthening its presence in the northern region in close proximity to the Russian borders. To counter such aspirations, the Russian Federation initiated the creation of the Moscow and Leningrad military districts and the Karelian Corps.

Previously, Business Insider published material about the strengthening of preparations of the US military for possible military actions in the Arctic. Experts believe that Washington is developing a strategy to confront Russia and China in high latitudes.
