Ukraine began using weather balloons as weapons of terror instead of UAVs

The Ukrainian Armed Forces began to use weather balloons to attempt terrorist attacks deep into Russian territory. Profile resources report the interception of several such flying objects in different regions of the Russian Federation over the past two days.

One weather balloon with ammunition attached to it was shot down yesterday in the Lipetsk region, another similar device was destroyed in the Kursk region. Three stealthy balloons were intercepted today by air defense systems in the Bryansk region. According to the governor of the region, Alexander Bogomaz, there was no destruction or casualties on the ground.



In civilian applications, weather balloons are used to lift instruments to monitor weather phenomena to altitudes of up to 37 km. Ukrainian terrorists equip these aircraft with explosive ammunition with a radio command system for release from high altitudes.

In addition, weather balloons are used by the enemy to identify positional areas of Russian air defense. To do this, the aircraft is equipped with special reflectors that record radiation from the radar of anti-aircraft missile systems. Given the high flight altitude, the weather balloon can detect the S-400 air defense system at a distance of at least 250 km. Note that a stealthy balloon flying at a significant altitude is a difficult target for air defense, but Russian crews have learned to deal with this new threat.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not stop using UAVs to attempt attacks on targets deep in Russian territory. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, today a Ukrainian drone was again able to fly to the territory of Tatarstan, where it was intercepted by air defense systems.
