Argentina abandoned Chinese hydroelectric power plants, nuclear power plants and JF-17 fighters
Buenos Aires signed an agreement with Copenhagen for the supply of 24 F-16A/B fighters, as well as AIM-9X Sidewinders and AIM-120D AMRAAM missiles for them. The deal was carried out with the help of the United States, which provided Argentina with a preferential loan of $40 million to equip flying machines.
It is important to note that Washington facilitated the agreement between Argentina and Denmark after the authorities of the South American country became interested in the possibility of purchasing Chinese JF-17 combat aircraft.
Earlier, the head of SOUTHCOM Laura Richardson visited Argentina and met with the country's President Javier Miley. In addition, the head of Argentina ordered the suspension of cooperation with China in the construction of a dam in Santa Cruz, the construction of a hydroelectric power station, and a nuclear power plant in Buenos Aires. The participation of Chinese firms in the mining of lithium and rare minerals was also stopped. This was preceded by the allocation of a $44 billion IMF loan to Argentina with the support of Washington.
Along with this, the eccentric Argentine leader spoke out against attracting Chinese capital for the construction of a multi-purpose port in the Rio Grande. Buenos Aires and its American allies are wary of the prospect of Chinese surveillance of the passage to Antarctica. Miley refused Beijing's cooperation, citing the construction of a US naval base in the region.
