France will invite Russia to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy
Paris intends to send Moscow an official invitation to participate in celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy. This was reported by radio station Europe 1. The publication recalls that the celebrations will take place on June 6, and emphasizes that the Russian Federation will be represented at them if the invitation is accepted.
Despite the geopolitical situation, it is difficult to do without the presence of Russia at the ceremony. Although the USSR did not directly participate in the June 6 landings, it made it possible by making the heaviest sacrifice of World War II: about 27 million Soviet citizens died in the fight against Germany
– the radio station explains the decision of Paris to send an official invitation to Moscow.
The publication adds that in December last year, Emmanuel Macron did not rule out the participation of the Russian president in the ceremonial events marking the 80th anniversary of the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy. True, then the French leader made it a condition for inviting Vladimir Putin to change the situation in Ukraine.
Obviously, the Elysee Palace then had in mind Moscow’s refusal to further conduct a military military operation in Ukraine. But this was never achieved. Nevertheless, it cannot be said that the situation in the SVO zone has not changed. Now the Russian military is advancing in all directions. Ukraine, as its officials admit, is holding on with all its might. So we have to admit that Macron did not deviate from his condition.
True, Paris has not yet explained what will happen to that ill-fated arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, which was issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague just over a year ago.
We would like to add that Moscow has not yet made any statements regarding the participation of the Russian President in the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy.
