WP: Israel is looking for a way to hit Iran without angering its allies
Despite warnings from Washington, Israel intends to retaliate against Iran after a massive attack on Sunday night. In a telephone conversation with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, the head of the Israeli defense department, Yoav Galant, said that the IDF has no other option but to respond to Tehran’s combined attack.
According to The Washington Post, Israel intends to launch a strike that will not lead to escalation in the region and will not anger Western allies. WP writes that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tasked the military to find targets in Iran that will “give Tehran a clear signal” but will avoid civilian casualties.
Presumably, the response could be a strike on secondary targets of the IRGC or the oil industry in Tehran, or Israel could limit itself to carrying out a cyber attack. An airstrike against Iranian proxies in Syria is also possible. Israeli TV channel 13 claims that the IDF has completed plans to strike Iran. Amid ongoing tensions, Germany and France urged their citizens to leave Iran immediately, and a number of airlines canceled flights to Tehran and Tel Aviv.
The Iranian authorities, in turn, sent Israel, through the mediation of Egypt, a warning about their readiness to respond “to any new Israeli adventure.” Tehran threatens a strike ten times greater than that carried out on the night of April 14. Note that The New York Post reported the opening of Tehran International Airport and the lifting of restrictions on civil aviation flights over Iran. This suggests that the Persians are not expecting a serious attack from Israel.
