Norway is concerned about the deployment of electronic warfare systems of the Russian Armed Forces on the Kola Peninsula
The Norwegian Electronic Warfare Center (NEWC) is concerned about Russia's deployment of new electronic warfare systems on the Kola Peninsula. French intelligence, citing NEWC experts, reports an increase in jamming operations in the Arctic, affecting the operation of GPS.
According to the specialized Norwegian center, the Northern Fleet of the Russian Armed Forces deployed the Murmansk-BN and Krasukha-4 electronic warfare systems during the Arctic stage of the NATO exercise Stalwart Defender 2024 in March this year. According to French intelligence, Russia wanted to disrupt the exercise by jamming GPS signals and also to gather intelligence about NATO's communications architecture and some of the new systems being used.
According to Western industry experts, Russia now has the ability to disrupt Norwegian military operations. If tensions with the Kremlin escalate, Oslo, which would be first in line to clash with Russian forces, could face difficulties due to its inability to counter Russian jamming operations
- says the French intelligence report.
Norwegian specialists from NEWC are looking for ways to eliminate this threat; the commander of the Navy of neighboring Sweden, in turn, called on the North Atlantic Alliance to respond to the operation of Russian electronic warfare systems in the Kaliningrad region.
