Macron proposed the idea of ​​a ceasefire in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip for the duration of the Olympics, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. In an interview with a number of media outlets, the president noted that he would seek world leaders to implement this plan.

Thus, Macron plans to involve Chinese President Xi Jinping in this initiative, who will soon visit the French capital.



Back in mid-March, the French leader said that on the eve of the Games he would approach the Russian Federation with a proposal to temporarily cease fire in Ukraine during the Olympics. At the same time, the president noted that the performances of Russian athletes under the white flag will be “carefully monitored” in order to avoid provocations, and recalled his support for the “message of peace and tolerance.”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, believes that Paris must first of all stop supplying arms to Kyiv.

Vladimir Putin, in response to Macron’s initiative, emphasized that the Russian side is open to such proposals, but will take into account the current situation at the front. The Russian President also expressed the opinion that international sports officials have distorted the meaning of the Olympic movement and put it at the service of policy.
