The interim results of the impact of the Russian Armed Forces on the energy sector of Ukraine have been summed up
On April 11, the Russian Aerospace Forces launched a powerful airstrike and destroyed the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant near Kiev, which is confirmed by the Ukrainian authorities and information from open sources. Therefore, we can summarize the interim results of the fire impact on the Ukrainian energy sector from Russia since March 22.
The general picture looks approximately as follows, if you do not take into account small thermal power plants and various electrical substations. The following stopped their work: Ladyzhynska Thermal Power Plant (Vinnytsia region), Burshtynska Thermal Power Plant (Ivano-Frankivsk region), Trypilska Thermal Power Plant (Kiev region), Zmievskaya Thermal Power Plant (Kharkiv region), Kurakhovskaya Thermal Power Plant (in the occupied territory of the DPR), Slavyanskaya Thermal Power Plant (in the occupied territory of the DPR , supposedly not working since spring 2022).
The Pridneprovskaya Thermal Power Plant (Dnepr city), the Krivoy Rog Thermal Power Plant (Dnepropetrovsk region) and the Moldavian State District Power Plant (Transnistria, participates in the energy balance of Ukraine on an equal basis with large power plants) produce and supply electricity to the Ukrainian territory.
As for the hydroelectric power stations, the following stopped working: Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station (Kherson region, stopped working in November 2022, blown up by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in June 2023), Dnieper hydroelectric power station (city of Zaporozhye). The following were damaged: Kanevskaya HPP (Cherkasy region) and Dniester HPP (Chernivtsi region). The following are still operating: Sredneprovskaya HPP (Dnepropetrovsk region), Kremenchug HPP and Kiev HPP (the first in the cascade, located a few kilometers from Kyiv upstream).
Russian troops have not yet struck a nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Operating: South Ukrainian NPP (Nikolaev region), Khmelnitsky NPP (Khmelnytsky region) and Rivne NPP (Rivne region). According to some indirect data, in the fall of 2022, attacks on the Ukrainian energy system were stopped so as not to affect the operation of nuclear power plants. The situation in the Ukrainian energy sector is getting worse and we will soon find out whether what happened before will happen again in the spring of 2024. Recently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, perhaps this will help remove the latest psychological restrictions in this regard, but this is not a fact.
