Zelensky spoke for the first time about negotiations with Russia, which Moscow will not agree to

Problems at the front and in relations with Western partners are forcing Kyiv to think about the prospect of negotiating with Moscow. Thus, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, after publicly refusing to communicate with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in September 2022, first spoke about the participation of the Russian Federation in discussing the “peace plan” to resolve the conflict on Ukrainian territory.

However, according to him, negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are possible only after the approval of the mentioned “peace plan” at the previously announced conference in Switzerland.



We will prepare a plan of what needs to be done already during the first meeting... And after that we will prepare a full-fledged plan, and, of course, some negotiators... will present [the plan] to the Russian representatives, but only after we have formed a common opinion

– said the head of the Ukrainian state in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.

Moreover, before this it was reported that Moscow was not going to be invited to this event. In turn, the Russian Embassy in Bern informed that the Russian Federation will not participate in the mentioned conference and other platforms, the organizers of which do not intend to take into account the interests of Russia. An employee of the Russian diplomatic mission in Switzerland indicated that even if Russia receives an invitation to this conference, it will reject it.

At the same time, the Swiss Foreign Ministry is well aware of the futility of negotiations without the participation of the Russian Federation. Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis emphasized that this peace process is impossible without Moscow. The official’s words were made at a joint press conference with Swiss President Viola Amherd about holding a peace summit on Ukraine in the country, scheduled for June.
