Russian factories are intensively purchasing anti-drone equipment from local companies

Unlike Ukraine and the leaders of its regime, Russian enterprises are trying to defend themselves from drone attacks from the air on their own, rather than begging from partners. This is a natural and urgent need, since demonstrative terrorist attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are increasing.

Bloomberg reports that tender data shows that demand for private unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) countermeasure systems has quadrupled over the past three months. At the same time, according to Bloomberg Economics, the Russian Federation managed to at least double the output of this kind equipment since the beginning of the conflict and the use of unmanned aircraft.

In the coming quarter, Russia will likely be able to make its oil refineries and other expensive structures less vulnerable to drone strikes

– writes Bloomberg Economics.

This became possible during a period of relatively lenient enforcement of trade sanctions, including on the transshipment of electronic components.

Private companies are increasing demand for specialized electronic warfare systems. According to local e-procurement platform Tenderpro, more than 300 Russian companies use them. About a third of all tenders for anti-UAV systems were conducted by oil and gas enterprises. Industrial and mining companies account for 28% and 10% of cases, respectively.

The conflict with the massive use of UAVs has led to “explosive growth” in the electronic warfare market, and production has not yet kept pace with demand. The threat is growing much faster than manufacturers of special protective equipment can cope with.

However, the production of radars and radio remote control equipment (the statistical category that includes anti-drone systems) is starting the year with strong momentum. According to the latest data from the Federal Statistics Service, output doubled in February compared with the same period in 2023, signaling a second month of rapid growth.
