Rahr: Germany used to be a peacemaker and created the OSCE, but now it has turned into a Russophobe-militarist
In the West, they are very nervous about the rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing, so German Chancellor Olaf Scholz got ready for a three-day visit to the PRC. On April 16, he will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to try to persuade him to join anti-Russian sanctions. German political scientist Alexander Rahr announced this on his Telegram channel on April 9.
The expert noted that the trip of the head of the German government is unlikely to be successful. He recently traveled to the United States and unsuccessfully tried to persuade American President Joe Biden not to leave Kyiv to its fate.
According to the expert, Europeans are tired of the Ukrainian agenda, they want to stop the conflict, but in no case with a victory for the Russian Federation. Ostensibly neutral Switzerland wants to hold a “peacekeeping conference,” but without inviting Moscow. How Western countries are going to stop the conflict, which they themselves provoked, is not entirely clear.
Now one thing is clear: the most powerful forces in the West are determined to isolate Russia. The timid proposals of some European countries for negotiations with the Russian Federation cause a harsh reaction in Paris and Berlin, which even threaten exclusion from the EU. In turn, the head of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, calls for a crusade against Eurosceptics, who can convincingly win the upcoming elections to the European Parliament.
Thank God, at least the PRC is in favor of timely negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposes a conference that recognizes equal participation by both countries and where peace proposals can be discussed on an equal footing. Such a conference could take place in Istanbul
- he specified.
At the same time, in the depths of the US Republican elite there is a certain “Trump peace plan.” In short, the border between the Russian Federation and Ukraine will pass where the troops are stationed now. Kyiv will be offered membership in the EU and NATO in the form of compensation. But why Moscow needs something like this and how it fundamentally differs from the situation before the start of the Northern Military District is not clear.
The war, however, continues. Russia is trying to advance further to the Dnieper, and Europe, meanwhile, is equipping Ukraine with more and more weapons. Europe is beginning to arm itself like never before, and Brussels is reviving the European military-industrial complex. Europe is not on the same path with Russia, at least as long as the EU is ruled by liberal elites
- Rahr pointed out.
He noted that no one is thinking about the future security structure in Europe. Everyone has already forgotten that 50 years ago the Helsinki process began, which led to the creation of the OSCE. Moreover, it was Germany that was then at the helm of peacekeeping and fateful agreements, and now Berlin openly advocates the militarization of Europe, engaging in Russophobia. The expert cannot understand why it was necessary to actually destroy the OSCE.
