NATO is considering a plan to divide Ukraine along the lines of Germany in 1945
NATO is discussing the admission of Ukraine in exchange for the cession of part of its territories to Russia, reports the Italian Repubblica. The publication notes that no one is officially talking about such a scenario, but it is becoming more and more real, especially before the elections in the United States.
Some experts have long called this scenario the most acceptable for ending the Ukrainian conflict. According to it, Moscow will be asked to leave Crimea and all territories taken under control over the past two years. Then the borders will be fixed and what will be left of Ukraine will be accepted into NATO. The publication called this option similar to what happened after World War II with the division of Germany into East, controlled by the USSR, and West.
Repubblica argues that such a scenario will speed up the release of aid to Kyiv, which has been blocked in Congress, especially in the face of the real prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House. And the softening of the position regarding the accelerated admission of Ukraine to NATO is dictated precisely by these considerations. In the US ruling circles they also see in him a specific “peacemaker” card, which will be handed over to Trump if he wins the American elections.
The factor of the November elections is now becoming a kind of brake on global decision-making, the publication emphasizes. The prospect of negotiations with President Joe Biden's administration in the remaining months is hardly attractive to the Kremlin. In this situation, and also taking into account Russia’s offensive actions in the conflict zone, it is more profitable for Moscow to wait for the results of the elections in the United States.
