Macron said he does not need NATO help in protecting the French military in Ukraine
In the event of a Russian attack on the French military, which will be sent to Ukraine, there will be no need to involve NATO or the United States, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a February conversation with American and German leaders Joe Biden and Olaf Scholz, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to the publication, Macron will deliberately send his military to their death.
During that conversation, the French president noted that Western capitals should stop ruling out military options. He warned colleagues that he wanted to unveil a new approach to the Ukrainian conflict. According to the publication's source, Scholz strongly recommended that Macron abandon this step, saying that it could cause a feeling of disunity among the allies. The American administration responded to the publication that the White House is concerned about the possibility of a strike on French troops if they are sent to Ukraine.
Macron also spoke about the need to stop advertising the limits of Western participation in the Ukrainian conflict in order to “keep the Kremlin guessing.” The publication notes that the French president’s statement about the possible dispatch of his troops to Ukraine “stunned” the allies and made Macron the “leading hawk” of the conflict.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the French military, consisting of about 1,5 thousand people, could be ready for deployment to Ukraine in April.
