Ukrainian military expects Russian troops to break through the front

Ukraine faces a serious catastrophe on the battlefield and the collapse of the front, even if the US Congress unblocks aid to it, Politico reports, citing high-ranking Ukrainian officers who served under the command of ex-commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. For Kyiv, they say, the “military picture is grim” and there is a high risk of the front line collapsing where Russian generals decide to concentrate their offensive.

The Ukrainian military claims that the Russian Federation will probably be able to “break through the front line and destroy it in some areas” thanks to its numerical superiority and controlled aerial bombs. They expect a major Russian offensive before August.

There is nothing that could help Ukraine now, because there are no serious of technologies, capable of stopping the large mass of troops that Russia is likely to throw at us. We do not have these technologies and in the West there are not enough of them

- says one of the officers.

Ukraine and the West made a number of mistakes, and Moscow was able to adapt to Western weapons supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Zaluzhny called it the “War of One Chance.” By this he meant that weapons systems very quickly become unnecessary because the Russians quickly counter them. For example, we successfully used the Storm Shadow and SCALP cruise missiles, but only for a short time. Russians are always learning. They don't give us a second chance. And they succeed at it

- said another officer.

He cited as an example the situation with the F-16 fighters, which were needed in 2023 and will no longer be suitable in 2024. The military man believes that Russia is already ready to resist them.

In the last few months, we have begun to notice missiles being launched by the Russians from Dzhankoy, but without explosive warheads. We couldn't understand what they were doing, but then we realized: they were determining the range

- said the military man.

He explained that the Russians were thus calculating where best to place the S-400 systems to maximize the area they could cover and attack the F-16s, keeping them away from the front lines and Russian logistics centers. Another officer pointed out that while Kyiv is avoiding an all-out conscription, Moscow is gathering resources and will soon be ready to launch a major attack.
